Florida town plans to use eminent domain

RIVIERA BEACH, Fla., Oct. 4 (UPI) -- Officials of a poor, predominantly black Florida town plan to relocate about 6,000 residents to make room for a billion-dollar yachting and housing complex.

The coastal community of Rivera Beach in Palm Beach County may use eminent domain, if necessary, to claim 400 acres of land for the project, The Washington Times reported Monday.

"This is a community that's in dire need of jobs, which has a median income of less than $19,000 a year," Mayor Michael Brown said. "If we don't use this power, cities will die."

Evilwhiteguy at Sharp as a Marble has a few things to say about this. I agree. Especially his closing comment: "I’m so spitting mad right now……. "

I have a feeling that it won't be long until one or more people 'go postal' over one of these emminent domain thefts. Good people are gonna die, and maybe even some government officials, too! To paraphrase Mayor Michael Brown... If you Do use this power, PEOPLE will die.

Anyone who believes that public good equates to public use in emminent domain is just plain WRONG! This includes some members of the United States Supreme Court. Economics should not be a consideration.

CORRECTION: Above, I attributed a quote to evilwhiteguy at Sharp as a Marble, and it was incorrect... not the quote, the person. That should have been Mr. Allen at Sharp as a Marble. In my haste to properly attribute sources, it appears that Sharp as a Marble is sharper than I am! My apologies to both.

Reaching A New Level

Having been the recipient of numerous heartrending email requests for assistance, I now receive a new one. It takes the ubiquitous Nigerian email scam to a new, lower level. Include the scam email from the Australian Barrister. Read on...

Dear Sir,

My Name is COLE REED, I am a soldier serving in Iraq, I will disclose/proof of my identity to you when it is safe to do so. I have to urgently evacuate some money, totaling US$22,700,000(Twenty-Two Million,Seven Hundred Thousand US Dollars) clean legal notes, and all in US$100 bills out of here to a safe country having found a secure way to do so.

Some money in various currencies were discovered concealed in barrels with piles of weapons and ammunitions at a location near one of Saddam's old palaces during a rescue operation several months ago,and it was agreed by the few of us present that the money be shared amongst us, this was an illegal thing to do though, but I tell you what? no compensation can make up for the risks we are taking with our lives in this hell hole. The above figure was given to me as my share, and for several reasons, concealing this volume of cash here has been a big problem/source of distraction to me,I however found a temporary solution with the help of a UN contact working here, whose office enjoys some immunity, and was able to get the package to a safe location entirely out of trouble spot, where they have been for the past 8 months. She does not know the real contents of the packages, and must not know, but believes that they belong to an Asian American who died in an air raid, and before giving up, trusted me to hand them over to his business associate in Europe. I have now found a secure way of getting the package out of Iraq, and request for your assistance to work with me to complete this. I am ready to give you US$4M for the role you will play in this, but should you have reasons to reject this offer, please destroy this mail as any leakage will be too bad for us.

I will continue with more details as soon as you let me know your position. But we have to take this up as soon as possible for reasons I will explain when I hear from you. Respond to me on email address(colereed@hosting-extra.com).

Please respond to my email as soon as possible.

I'm almost surprised there wasn't more in here than an implied appeal to Support the Troops! At least it follows the MSM theme of the UN being the good guys, even when unaware. Maybe they should take the theme from the Tom Clancy novel, and claim the cash was shipped home in body cavities. (Sorry, I can't for the life of me bring to mind the title of the novel. It was the one where he developed the John Clark character that appeared in a number of his other novels.)

Update: I see that this has already been listed as an internet scam here.
